Asset Intelligence - RBAR

DHL Freight Forwarding & RBAR

Cannes, Austria, Indianapolis to Texas - and back to Abu Dhabi.

Globally renowned as the fastest and most exhilarating motorsport on the planet, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship is a visual spectacle unlike any other – a combination of high speed, low altitude and extreme manoeuvrability make it a sport in which only the world’s most exceptional pilots can compete. DHL returns as the Official Logistics Partner of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship and will be managing the transportation of the lightweight racing planes, spare parts, fuel and other racing equipment as well as television and broadcasting.

DHL taps its intelligence logistics expertise to support the Red Bull Air Race organizers, using appropriate transport modes – including ocean, air and road freight – in order to ensure on-time delivery in the most environmentally friendly way.

With eight races on three continents, this years series is landing in the United Arab Emirates, France, Japan, Eastern Europe, Austria, the U. S. and the last venue is yet to be confirmed.

 Investigation & Programme Justification

To explore and scope out investment necessary to integrate asset intelligence capabilities to support the management and day-to-day operation for DHL’s Red Bull Air Race, (RBAR) contract. This investigation is to set out and understand the integration of technologies required to aid the facilitation and monitor the movement of contracted components of the race via DHL. The aim is to assist in the logistics management of the RBAR contract not only at the venue, but also throughout the DHL supply chain process. New systems and technologies utilised must prove how freight logistics asset intelligence can no longer be viewed by organisations as a strain on resources, but rather an enabler for efficiencies to the industrial process.

RBAR; An overview

Three main operational locations were identified at the RBAR in Cannes France in May 2018:

➢   Nice Airport

➢   Media Compound

➢   Communications and Management Centre

For the purpose of this document we have assumed that this operational format is common to all of the RBAR locations, however it is understood that certain locations may overlap.

Race assets are relatively fixed and follow a general pattern from one race to another and are transported via road, air and maritime routes dependent on the geographical location of the next race.

For the purpose of this document we have assumed that this operational format is common to all of the RBAR locations.
